Breed: Mixed breed
Sex: Male
Neutered: Yes
Approximate Age: 3 years 2 monthsAge is estimated and includes the time the dog has been at the shelter
Size: Medium (32 lbs)
Color: Brown with white chest
Coat: Smooth
Vaccinated: Yes
Children: OK with older children
Other Dogs: Dog selective but there are some at the shelter that he loves to play with
Walking: Walks well on the leash
Notes: Chauncey is a little gentleman. He does very well on the leash, he does not tend to be messy in his kennel, and he has a very calm energy. He would be a great companion for a slower paced lifestyle. He likes leisurely strolls, attention, and naps. He is very timid when meeting new people so patience is key. Although he looks like a big boy, he is short and only weighs 30 pounds. Chauncey is neutered, vaccinated and his adoption fee has been sponsored. He would do best in a home with older kids due to his shyness.
He has done well with the shelter dogs that we have put him in playgroups with. A meet and greet would be needed to make sure the two dogs will be friends. Chauncey loves to run in the play yard and he loves soft treats. Loud noises and sudden movements frighten him. He would do best in a home that has older children rather than small children because of that. He takes a moment to warm up and begin to trust but once he does, he loves being in your lap and giving kisses. He does great with house training with routine. He is dog selective but there are some at the shelter that he loves to play with.Sponsored Adoption

To adopt you must be at least 18 years of age and provide a current ID. You must complete an Adoption Application form and pass reference checks before you can take a dog home. See the Adoption Information here. Most of our dogs are strays, therefore we can only guess whether they are good with other animals or children by observing the behavior of the animal in the kennel and their interaction with the shelter staff.- Dogs can be adopted out of state with the proper identification required (see below), unless they have not been spayed/neutered, in which case they are restricted to residents of Mason and adjacent counties (Mason, Cabell, Putnam, Jackson County). West Virginia law requires that all dogs and cats adopted from the animal shelter are spayed/neutered.
- To adopt a dog you must be 18 years of age or older.

Do not forget to bring your pets inside when it is too cold outside. IF IT IS TOO COLD FOR YOU, IT IS TOO COLD FOR THEM! The law says: During cold weather, a dog shelter must have a windbreak at its entrance and have bedding material that is sufficient to protect the animal from cold and promote the retention of body heat.
